A few words about this website

HisProstateCancer is a labor of love, inspired by a wonderful man who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 at age 49.  Two months after his radical prostatectomy, he was skiing and outrunning his wife (our founder and editor). Two years later, his cancer returned and he had 6 months of hormone therapy followed by 8 weeks of radiation.  Just after his 5-year milestone, his PSA became detectable again (0.001), but has remained stable without additional treatment.

About our founder and editor

Dana Kababik is a professional writer who has more than 20 years of experience researching and writing web sites, educational brochures, videos, resource guides, newsletters, and magazines on numerous health conditions, including prostate cancer.

She is involved in prostate cancer advocacy and was interviewed by U.S. News & World Report for the article “When Your Partner Has Prostate Cancer.” You can read more about her personal experience with prostate cancer here.

Our mission is to empower spouses and partners with information, help and hope so they can better cope with their loved one’s prostate cancer.

Personal experience plus extensive research

HisProstateCancer blends general information with real-life experience and is written specifically for wives, partners and family members.

All articles are thoroughly researched using reputable and respected medical sources, which are listed on each page. This information is meant to be used as a starting point for meaningful discussions with your  healthcare team.  We are not medical professionals and cannot address medical questions.

Note: As of August 6, 2020 this site will no longer be updated. However, the information here will continue to remain available.

We may come from different places, and love men with different Gleason scores, but we’re all in this fight together. Never give up the fight!

HisProstateCancer is an independent site supported by paid advertising, which we may not necessarily endorse (see section 8 in our Terms of Use for our full advertising policy). We also have unpaid links to prostate cancer support groups, online prostate cancer forums, prostate cancer e-mail lists, recognized cancer centers, professional journals, and nonprofit prostate cancer organizations. Sometimes we also have unpaid links to news stories about pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies and/or medical/drug developments.
