We thought our sex life was over, but it wasn’t – “We were encouraged”

Thank you for allowing me to participate in this wonderful forum. This post is meant to calm some fears that many couples have when first confronted with this monster of a disease. When Bob was diagnosed with prostate cancer this past January, we were shocked and devastated.  The first and only decision we made was to remove the prostate and get rid of the cancer.

The next realization was that our sex life, that has always been fantastic, was probably over. He had nerve sparing surgery but still that did not guarantee future potency. (I’ve posted a synopsis of Bob’s statistics below.)

Our hopes were encouraged when he got a partial erection five days post-op with the catheter still in. They improved to a point, about 70%. Great but not quite enough for penetration and maintaining them was difficult.

The intimacy and things we did in bed were wonderful, but I finally told Bob that he needed to ask the doctor for some meds. He wanted to make it without medications, but it just was not happening.

The doctor gave him some Cialis samples and he split the 20mg tablet in half. It worked great!!!!! Full erections easily maintained just like pre-op. Wow!!

We are very happy with (and thankful for) the way it all has worked out.

First erections started five days post op with catheter still in, “ouch”, and have been improving well since then. 80% natural med-free erections. Full erection now possible (less than four months post-op) with the assistance of 10mg of Cialis.
11/22/08 Took 10mg Cialis, full very usable ( perfect ) erections 1 hour, 10 hours and 80 hours later!! Now taking 10mg on Monday nights and again on Friday nights. We are both “good to go” in the bedroom whenever we want. Can med-free full erections be coming soon??!! We are pleased with the progress so far.
